excess?=
+/-Hi guys, How would you say "from excess to excess" or a surfeit? in Latin? Ex abudante abudante? Please correct me if I am wrong. 41.240.92.237 16:03, 27 Februarii 2010 (UTC)
- Ex abuntia ad abuntiam. Note that classicist tend to remove the "ad", thus you would see more often as "Ex abuntia abuntiam".--Jondel 05:29, 1 Martii 2010 (UTC)
- No, I don't think you'd see that at all ... chiefly because I'm not sure "abuntia" is a normal Latin word. Abundantia, maybe. 'De abundantia in abundantiam' is probably the phrase (and that wording is attested in John Calvin). It might depend on what sort of excess you mean, though. —Mucius Tever 23:14, 3 Martii 2010 (UTC)
- Many thanks I think the last is the phrase I was looking for. 41.240.77.112 19:30, 6 Martii 2010 (UTC)
Soft redirects
+/-Greetings. Is there a rule on the Latin Wiktionary against making a soft redirect from one's user page? I see you have no such template, and when I tried to do it by hand (ie. redirect my userpage to my page at meta), someone told me it's not allowed here. I'm only an occasional contributor and thought that it would be better to point people to a page I tend to check more often than my page here. Thanks, Jafeluv 17:34, 16 Maii 2010 (UTC)
- There's no explicit rule, no. But then, we hardly have any new users, so I don't think the issue's particularly come up before, either. —Mucius Tever 02:31, 17 Maii 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it's been used here before,[1][2] and it's a common way for people who do a lot of crosswiki work to avoid having to create userpages on every wiki they edit. I can't see why it's considered a problem here. Jafeluv 14:28, 18 Maii 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I know that. Like I said, there's no rule against it. I don't know why he would have thought it was a problem, either; I don't read much Russian and Google Translate isn't really getting his reasoning across. Anyway, he's not an admin and as a contributor he's apparently not examining the information he's been adding en masse; so he isn't bringing much weight to his advice. If you just want a soft redirect, that's fine. —Mucius Tever 23:16, 19 Maii 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Jafeluv 11:41, 20 Maii 2010 (UTC)
